Some time ago, we made a post asking people to share a story of theirs where they had to help someone in need that the person got so grateful at the end of the day. There was a small gift attached to the top three stories. Here is the winning story. The writer asked that her identity be hidden, so, no pictures.
That day, I went to the market with a calculated amount of
money to buy some foodstuffs. While buying the stuffs, I saw a young girl of
about seventeen years old, looking so down. She was making a great effort not
to let the tears start flowing.
I got to find out what happened.
She worked in a company close to the market as an office
assistant. Her boss had sent her to the market to buy her some ‘fresh’ boiled
corn. The corn seller sold to her some not too fresh ones. She took them to her
boss who was not in the office at that time. The boss had an emergency, so had
to attend to it. By the time she (her boss) was back to the office, two hours
was already gone and the corn gone cold and stronger. She asked the young
office assistant to take it back to them and collect her money back.
Then, she took it back but the seller would not take it.
That was where I met them. I gathered that she had stood
there with the corn hands for up to two hours. She was scared of the boss’
wrath if she didn’t return with the money.
I gave her the money and she was so grateful and thanked me
until I was out of sight.
The funny part was that my money wasn’t enough to buy what I
needed to buy after giving her the money. I had to trek home.
The following day, I received the same favour from someone
else. This time, it was ten thousand naira. I couldn’t thank God enough!
